I’m reaching out to the STAGE ACTORs out there as I will be doing the June workshop presentation at TSW (Theatre Southwest 6/15/16), for a one night only presentation.

I have a script, but I need two actors for the play version of a short film script I have called: “The Evolution of Plymouth St. Cloud.”

In this dark, gritty little tale, a gruff, disheveled, agent (Sam Fiore) takes a meeting with his one A-List Broadway client, a plucky, iconoclastic 13-year old (Plymouth St. Cloud). Sam thinks they are meeting at the small, now condemned, and about to be demolished, Off Broadway theatre to discuss Plymouth’s audition for a big budget L.A. movie, but Plymouth has another agenda.

Now both roles are big, fat, juicy actor STEAK, but here’s the catch. Altho I’ll be auditioning this month and the next, we won’t actually get together to read thru, block and rehearse until June. I plan to have about 5 two hour rehearsals ONLY for this 10 minute play, but whomever I choose WILL have the script way ahead of time so they can memorize, BUT all rehearsals will be during the day, during the week! Now this might not be a big thing for the kid, as they will already be on summer break, but for the 40-60 male who would be playing Sam… Well, we shall see who hits me with a pic and resume at: edvelagrande@gmail.com with either SAM or PLYMOUTH in the subject line.

I will also need a female voice to tape and use at the beginning and end of the piece (no rehearsal required).

The whole script is attached as a zip file (so you'll know what you're getting yourself into).

Let me hear from you!

When: March 5th 1:30-5:30
What to prepare?: Please prepare one rock song and one musical theatre song. Tracks or accapella accepted for auditions.

Do I need to bring anything?: Please bring a headshot, resume, and any conflicts you may have March 12th-April 19th.
Who can audition?: we are seeking a diverse cast of men and women ages 18-99. Due to the nature of this show we will not be accepting younger performers.
Performance Dates: 4/20 -4/30 (6 performances)

Synopsis: Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. You won't be able to resist the spoofy fun of REEFER MADNESS. The addictive and clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like 'Down at the Ol' Five and Dime' and the Vegas-style 'Listen to Jesus, Jimmy,' featuring J.C. Himself leading a chorus of showgirl angels. This dynamic show will go straight to your head! REEFER MADNESS is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary. It contains adult humor, religious parody, and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness. It therefore may be inappropriate for younger performers and audiences.

Characters:
Jimmy Harper - A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer
Lecturer - a severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness. (Doubles as Goat-Man, Mr. Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker, Policeman, FDR)
Mary Lane - Jimmy's sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl.
Jack Stone - The handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30's gangster movie-type. (Doubles as Jesus, George Washington)
Mae - An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den.
Ralph Wiley - a denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his reefer habit. (Doubles as Sally's Baby, Switch-Puller, Uncle Sam)
Sally - a sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck. (Doubles as Lady Liberty)
Placard Girl - throughout the play she reinforces the warnings of the Lecturer by holding large signs that clearly state the moral of what we've just seen. (Doubles as Five-and-Dime Kid, Police Officer)
Ensemble - Mixed gender group to represent Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale.

PERSONAJES

Principales

OPEN AUDITIONS for Vanities

a comedy by Jack Heifner
directed by Jami Hughes

Auditions: February 21 & 23, 2016 at 6:00pm

The Plaza Theatre
120 S. Houston Street
Wharton, Texas 77488

Performances: April 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 2016
Recommended for mature audiences due to subject matter.

About the Show: A bittersweet comedy that is an astute, snapshot sharp chronicle of the lives of three Texas girls. In 1963, Joanne, Kathy and Mary are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Their lives have diverged their friendship, which once thrived on assumption as well coordinated as sweater sets, is strained and ambiguous. Old time banter rings false. Their attempts at honest conversation only show they can no longer afford to have very much in common.
