Synopsis:

Setting:
Civil War: Virginia (soon to be West Virginia), 1861, July
The setting and historical background offer added context to the classic story about young lovers becoming pawns and symbols in a larger struggle. It puts this 400-year-old story into a context that many Americans can connect with more easily than the original time and place, the Italian city of Verona. To clarify the deep grudge between the Capulets and the Montagues, the Montagues will be in their best Union attire, while the Capulets will be Confederates to the end.

Roles available to be cast:

Union
Romeo Montague
Benvolio Montague, cousin of Romeo
Abram Montague
Lord Montague, father of Romeo
Lady Montague, mother of Romeo
Mercutio, friend of Romeo
