Altar Boyz, directed by Diane Goldsmith*, is a foot-stomping, rafter-raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio:

Matthew (Tyler Lewis*), Mark (Derek Manning), Luke (AJ Rogers*), Juan (Santiago Delgado*) and Abraham (James Canfield*). With their tight harmonies and spectacular choreography, the ALTAR BOYZ will delight your audiences. As they perform their signature hits such as "Rhythm In Me," "The Calling," and "I Believe," the Boyz question their loyalty to each other and ask whether or not faith is really holding them together.

“What attracted me to this show the most was that fact that we could cast it so well.” Director Diane Goldsmith is a founding member of Aside and currently a student at OU. “Within our company we have so many talented people and the idea was just thrown out at first. Then after some more thought I knew this would be a great fit for those involved in Aside.”

A Piece Of My Heart, directed by James Canfield, is a powerful, true drama of six women who went to Viet Nam five nurses and a country western singer booked by an unscrupulous agent to entertain the troops. The play portrays each young woman before, during, and after her tour in the war torn jungle and ends as each leaves a personal token at The Wall in Washington. The show will feature the talents of Jessica Canfield* as Martha, Taylor Moessinger as Sissy, Cecily Breaux* as Mary Jo, Shelby Escamilla* as Lee Ann, Diane Goldsmith as Whitney, Kaytie Markfort as Steele, and Cody Due as all American men.

Director and founding Aside member James Canfield talks about the relevance of the show, “I think of it not only as a play about war, but more importantly a play about womanhood and how that female spirit plays into the human conditions. There is so much in this two hour drama, there's pain, happiness, celebration, disdain, patriotism, and pride for one's country and one's self. This play is even more relevant and important now, as the War in Iraq, as war that has been constantly compared to the Vietnam War continues to rage on. Whether for, against, or indifferent, this is a powerful piece of theatre that displays America at its best, its worst, and its most beautiful.”
