Fall for Dominic Walsh Dance Theater
a Free Performance

Friday, September 7, 2012, at 8:00 PM

Contemporary ballet company Dominic Walsh Dance Theater will return to Miller Outdoor Theatre for Fall for Dominic Walsh Dance Theater on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 8:00 PM. Miller Outdoor Theatre is located at 6000 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, TX 77030.
The company will present a reprise of Walsh’s newest creation Camille Claudel. This dance theater work is an homage to this extraordinary French artist whose fate was equally fascinating, inspiring, and tragic...

Camille Claudel was an artist of exceptional and unusual talent, who influenced the great Auguste Rodin, but was confined to an insane asylum by her brother and mother for the last 30 years of her life. Walsh has always been motivated by Rodin’s work. As he embarked on choreography for the first time in 1998 with his Flames of Eros, his images of movement were derived from the angst-ridden sculptures of Rodin. “I have also remained drawn to the physicality and suggested narratives within Rodin’s and Claudel’s work and for years have wanted to combine those interests into an abstract narrative dance theater work about the life and work of Claudel,” comments Walsh.

Walsh assembled an amazing creative team for Camille Claudel. He enlisted Libbie Masterson for the scenography. Masterson did the set design for Walsh’s The Trilogy: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from 2008-2009. “I love Libbie's aesthetic in her photographic works and how she is able to transcend those very moods into her stage work. I knew that she would deliver a perfect environment for this important production,” says Walsh. Domenico Luciano, who has been a brilliant collaborator as a dancer, actor, and ballet master, designed the costumes. And lastly, composer Kinley Lange crafted the soundscape that includes some of his own compositions along with the works of Massenet, Saint-Saëns, Purcell, Satie, and Brel.

There will be a special pre-show performance by Vitacca Productions & Company of Houston Ballet Principal Joseph Walsh's new work titled An Introduction featuring five dancers from Vitacca Dance Project Pre-Professional Company, under the Artistic Direction of Kelly Ann Vitacca.

“With our unique mix of technical virtuosity, innovation, and collaboration, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater is one of this country’s leading contemporary ballet companies. I hope those who have never seen us perform, as well as our fans, will come out and ‘fall in love’ with dance,” says Walsh.
