The Landing Theatre Company (LTC), Houston’s professional company dedicated to advancing American Playwriting, opens their 2016-17 season with THE REDEMPTION SERIES: 12 original short plays in response to crisis in America. In the wake of national tragedies such as the massacre at PULSE Night Club in Orlando, FL and the continuing fatal police shootings, LTC put out a national call for new plays that explore how we come together and move forward in times of crisis. Featuring plays from notable writers from around the country, we seek to find answers to these questions through laughter, tears, and community.

4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) opens its 2016-2017 season on September 9th with Sam Shepard’s Tony-nominated masterpiece, True West—a modern American classic exploring themes of sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what it means to ‘be a man.’

Like a runaway train, this dark comedy about two brothers and their mutual resentment takes audiences on a thrill ride into the dark side of the human psyche, with laughs and unexpected moments of revelation along the way.

Progress Theatre presents The Burnin'. Written and Directed by Cristal Chanelle Truscott; Original Music by Heather Christian and Cristal Chanelle Truscott; Choreography by Millicent Johnnie, Tiffany Gilbert and the Progress Theatre Ensemble.

It’s 1940 in the fictional City of Antebellum. As the African American community prepares for the return of hometown hero Band Man, scheduled to play at the local juke, the White American community organizes it’s Annual Pilgrimage Pageant; a celebration of Southern hierarchy as it was “Before the War.”

Fast forward 75 years and post-Great Migration, urban residents in the metropolis of Sittay gather to critique the policies and politics behind contemporary headlines at a spoken word/hip hop spot.

CTC establishes Junior Shakespeare Acting Company Training Program

. Classical Theatre Company will expand its Shakespeare Outreach Program in the Fall of 2016 by establishing a Junior Shakespeare Acting Company. Hearkening back to the children’s acting companies of Shakespeare’s day, this company will accept children from ages 10-13 for an intensive acting and performance training program in Shakespeare. The program will include vocal training, training in stage combat and movement, and performances of scenes from Shakespeare. Ultimately the Junior Company will work on plays written by Jonson, Lyly, Beaumont and Fletcher and other great Elizabethan playwrights specifically for the child players, some of whom went on to create the roles of children and young women in Shakespeare’s company

The Landing Theatre Company announces their 2016-17 Season, featuring the World Premiere of SMALL JOKES ABOUT MONSTERS, 2 Regional Premieres, and the nationally-recognized New American Voices Play Reading Series.

HOUSTON - David Rainey, Executive Artistic Director of The Landing Theatre Company (LTC), announces the company's sixth season, and first full season in their new venue downtown: Landing Theatre @ the Docks (formerly home of Catastrophic Theatre and DiverseWorks). This season will feature the world premiere of Steven Strafford's Small Jokes About Monsters, a finalist in the 2016 New American Voices Play Reading Series; the Regional Premiere of Idris Goodwin and Kevin Coval's This is Modern Art, originally commissioned by Steppenwolf; the Regional Premiere of Winter Miller's In Darfur, originally co-commissioned by the Guthrie Theatre and The Playwrights Center and presented at the Public Theater; and the Olivier-nominated Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis.

Friends since kindergarten, Chicago cops Joey and Denny are almost family. Their relationship is put on the line after responding to a domestic disturbance call that takes a turn for the worse.

The result is a harrowing journey into a moral grey area where trust and loyalty struggle for survival against a sobering backdrop of criminal lowlifes.
