Early yesterday, due to the fact that Actors Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers could not reach an agreement, Equity held an emergency meeting discussing whether or not to strike. If they decided to strike, it would effect most Broadway and even touring shows from continuing to run. In the late afternoon, the parties involved issued a joint statement

Actors Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers reconvened Tuesday, July 6th to continue discussion and potential negotiation regarding non-Equity touring shows, salaries, and benefits for AEA members. As Theatreport reported, this meeting occurred after the League walked out on AEA before negotiations could take place. Meanwhile, Equity members, particularly those working on shows at the present time, have been apprehensive about going on strike if the two parties do not come to an agreement.

Equity presented its final offer to the League and it's Coordinated Bargaining partners at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning. The League did not accept the offer

Stage and Film Actor Dies at 80

Legendary actor Marlon Brando has passed away at the age of 80 in a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday. The cause of death is still unknown.

Brando was born on April 3, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, but grew up in Illinois. After expulsion from a Military Academy and digging ditches with his father, Brando set off to New York City to study acting with Stella Adler at Lee Strasbergs Actors Studio

The Alley Theatre will venture on another co-production with the Cleveland Playhouse in Ken Ludwigs world-premiere of Leading Ladies. The playwright, best known for his plays Crazy for You and Lend Me a Tenor, is set to direct the piece. Theatreport has just learned that Broadway musical theatre actor Brent Barrett will star in the production

The League of American Theatres and Producers and Actors Equity Association were under a deadline to come to terms with an agreement by midnight on set salaries and benefits for Broadway productions and national touring shows. According to reports, by 10:45pm any hope for negotiation was halted when representatives for the producers walked out while an Equity negotiator spoke
