Deborah Nowinski, Artistic Director/Founder of Dionysus Theatre has received the prestigious KPRC/JEFFERSON AWARD for September 2007. Dionysus Theatre is a non profit organization that brings the theater experience to actors with disabilities along with actors who are non-disabled. They are the only inclusive standing theater in the state of Texas.

In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service, a non-profit organization, to establish a Nobel Prize for public and community service – The Jefferson Awards.
The Awards are presented on two levels – national and local. On the local level, they honor ordinary people who do extraordinary things without any expectation of reward.
The story on Deborah Nowinski will air on Thursday, September 6th at 5 p.m. on KPRC.
Deborah founded Dionysus 10 years ago in memory of her son, Dustin, who died in 1997 of bone cancer at the age of 15. He was a student at HSPVA.
Her other son, Skyler, is following in his parents footsteps where he is a Junior at the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater actors training program. He is currently in London studying at the Globe Theater. Nowinski is married to E.J. Nolan, a professional actor and producer.
Dionysus Theatre is currently renting the Joe Frank Theater at the Jewish Community Center where they perform main stage shows and offer classes to people of all abilities.
