Unity Theatre Announces New Season

Brenham, Texas: – “Unity Theatre brings you the world” is the theme for Unity’s 2008 - 2009 Season. Productions will be centered around life and times in Italy, England, Wales, New York City, and Prince Edward Island in Canada.

“From across the region, professional actors, directors, designers, and technicians will come together to offer fascinating stories..
... and characters,” says Greg Wise, the Unity Theatre Executive Director.

“Many of these artists are acclaimed in the Texas theatre community.”

The Season brings a new feature called “Dine with the Stars,” where audiences are invited to share meals and discussions with the talented artists who come to Brenham to perform and produce. Unity will also continue its Education Program so locals can learn about live theatre and participate behind-the-scenes.

A special musical concert by the Rob Landes Trio will be offered in September. This Houston-based group will perform music from the Cole Porter and the World War II eras, when many popular tunes were written.

Shakespeare’s classic comedy, Taming of the Shrew, kicks-off the Main Stage Season in October with its rollicking battle of the sexes.
A new adaptation of A Child’s Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas, will be offered during the holiday season – an uplifting show for the entire family.

The legendary life of opera diva, Maria Callas, is the subject of Master Class planned for February. It is Terrence McNally’s Tony Award winning play, known for its sharp wit and moving drama.
Onstage in March and April is the Victorian thriller that the movie Gaslight made famous, Patrick Hamilton’s Angel Street.

The Regional Premiere of Anne of Green Gables: The Musical will end the Season in July. It is a fun new adaptation of the famous novel by L.M. Montgomery.

Season Passes are now available for the five Main Stage shows, all to be performed within Unity’s historic building located in downtown Brenham. Season Passes bring patrons discounted tickets, choice seating and notices before special events.
