Houston Family Arts Center to Showcase New 150-Seat Venue at July 1 Grand Opening of Garza Mainstage

Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) Executive Director Bob Clark and the HFAC Board of Directors is proud to announce the long-awaited and much anticipated Grand Opening of the HFAC Garza Mainstage...
on Thursday, July 1. The Grand Opening will feature the HFAC Mainstage performance of the iconic musical West Side Story beginning at 8 p.m. The Garza Mainstage is located at 10760 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070.

The opening of the Garza Mainstage marks the first community theatre venue to serve the 732,546 people living in the Cy-Fair area. The Houston Family Arts Center is the only community theatre in Northwest Houston to house two stages and an actors academy under one roof. With its 150-person seating capacity, the Garza Mainstage also puts the HFAC venue on par with The Texas Repertory Theatre and Stages Repertory Theatre, in terms of size.

“We are excited to share this gem with the patrons of Houston,” said Clark. “This expanded facility allows us to provide a wide range of performance opportunities and classes for children, teens, and adults. We now have a venue where actors of all ages can develop their creativity in a way that will positively shape their future and our community.”

The Garza Mainstage is the showpiece of the Houston Family Arts Center’s 6,750-square-foot multiple-use facility, which is the home of the HFAC Actors Academy and includes a lobby, class room, offices, and the HFAC Studio Stage. The Garza Mainstage is a 3,526-square-foot beautifully designed, state-of-the-art theatre equipped with the latest in lighting and sound equipment. It features upholstered theatre seats in a raised stadium seating configuration, a handicapped seating area, a mid-sized 30-foot by 20-foot proscenium stage, two dressing rooms and a small scene shop. The Garza Mainstage is the permanent home for HFAC’s mainstage and Teen Actors Guild (TAG) productions. The Garza Mainstage Theatre is named in honor of HFAC board members and season sponsors Dr. Mario and Lisa Garza.

“The Garza Mainstage was clearly a collaborative effort,” Clark continued. “God gave us an amazing team to design and build the Garza Mainstage. People who have seen the theatre are amazed to find a gorgeous theatre in the middle of a strip center.”

West Side Story, directed by Ilich Guardiola, will be performed at the Garza Mainstage Grand Opening. This moving and powerful musical, which has touched countless audiences for over 50 years, will kick off the Houston Family Arts Center 2010/2011 season and will run through July 11. Other shows in the season slated for the Garza Mainstage are:
