The Strand Theatre is a not for profit corporation chartered in the State of Texas in 1978. The theatre, then “The Strand Street Theatre,” began producing theatrical productions in 1977. The Galveston theater company announces their 2007 - 2008 season lineup...
The Odd Couple
By Neil Simon
August 31 – September 23: Felix and Oscar are back by popular demand! In Neil Simon’s beloved comedy, two divorced men decide to share a New York apartment. Felix is fussy and fastidious to a fault. He proves that cleanliness is next to insanity. Oscar wreaks havoc on a tidy room with the speed and thoroughness of a tornado. Soon, the two men learn that even the best of friends should never live together!

365 Days / 365 Plays
By Suzan-Lori Parks
October 8 – October 14: In November 2002, Pulitzer prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks sat down and committed to writing a play a day for the next 365 days. The world premiere of this play cycle, 365 Days/365 Plays, will be performed as a yearlong national festival simultaneously in major cities and communities around the country, creating the largest theater collaboration in U.S. History.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge
By Christopher Durang
November 30 – December 23: Obie Award-winning playwright, Christopher Durang turns Charles Dickens’ holiday classic on it’s head. In this hilarious parody, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future are all played by one sassy actress who keeps showing up way too early, Scrooge refuses to repent, and Mrs. Bob Cratchit decides to get drunk and jump off London Bridge. With twenty-one foundlings in the basement, and that whiny Tiny Tim, wouldn’t you want a drink too?

Gem of the Ocean
By August Wilson
February 8 – March 2: Set in 1904 Pittsburg, Gem of the Ocean is chronologically the first work in August Wilson’s decade-by-decade cycle dramatizing the African American experience during the twentieth century – that includes the Pulitzer Prize-winning plays Fences and The Piano Lesson. Aunt Esther, the drama’s 287-year-old fiery matriarch, welcomes into her Hill District home Solly Two Kings, who was born into slavery and scouted for the Union Army, and Citizen Barlow, a young man from Alabama searching for a new life.

Rounding Third
By Richard Dresser
April 11 – May 4: Don is a tough, blue-collar, win-at-all-costs veteran Little League coach whose son is the star pitcher. Michael is a corporate executive who believes that the job of the coaches is to shield the kids from the intense pressure of competition while making sure everyone has a good time. Out of these two conflicting philosophies, the real issues of the play emerge: should we protect our children as long as possible? Or do we prepare them to be tough enough to win? And what does it mean to be an American man?

Miss Witherspoon
By Christopher Durang
May 16 – June 8: It’s a double-dose of Durang! Poor Miss Witherspoon…after her untimely death, she arrives in the afterlife and refuses to be reincarnated. Nothing that God, Gandalf, or Rex Harrison can say will convince her to return to Earth! Miss Witherspoon must embrace her spiritual lessons, and learn to use her stubbornness for the good of mankind in this wacky and insightful metaphysical comedy.

Nunsense*
By Dan Goggin
June 20 – July 13: When the Little Sisters of Hoboken stage a variety show in an effort to raise money to bury four sisters who recently succumbed to tainted soup, all Heaven breaks loose! The nuns do everything from tap dance to share recipes from the files of Sister Julia (Child of God).
