Chrysalis Dance Company (Chrysalis), under the direction of Linda Phenix since 1998, was founded in Houston in 1983 by Christine Lidvall, whose mission was to develop a professional modern dance company with repertory by national and regional choreographers. Over fifteen nationally acclaimed choreographers have created dances for Chrysalis. Recent additions to the repertory include the quartet from the Bessie Award-winning dance Center My Heart (1998) by New York choreographer Doug Elkins, (Another) A Musing Machine (1997) and Romp for Moderns (2000) by Sean Curran, former principal dancer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.
