Chrysalis Dance Company (Chrysalis), under the direction of Linda Phenix since 1998, was founded in Houston in 1983 by Christine Lidvall, whose mission was to develop a professional modern dance company with repertory by national and regional choreographers. Over fifteen nationally acclaimed choreographers have created dances for Chrysalis. Recent additions to the repertory include the quartet from the Bessie Award-winning dance Center My Heart (1998) by New York choreographer Doug Elkins, (Another) A Musing Machine (1997) and Romp for Moderns (2000) by Sean Curran, former principal dancer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.

Since 1996, Maria Del Espadin has been teaching Houstonians all phases of Spanish Dance. With nearly 25 years of experience, Doña Maria offers a dance curriculum that challenges and excites students by providing opportunities to explore the creativity and joy found in this art form.

The first season exceeded all expectations. DWDT sold out the Hobby Center and even turned people away the second night of its world premiere in February 2003. The company received critical acclaim in both the dance press and the dance community. DWDT looks forward to presenting "The Miller's Daughter" in Fall 2003. Tickets are on sale now.

Suchu Dance, founded in 1998, is an award-winning, Houston-based contemporary dance/theatre performing group led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Jennifer Wood and Managing Director Louie Saletan. Suchu Dance engages itself in the creation and development of new contemporary dance theatre works, averaging 2-3 evening-length premieres and 5-6 other performances a season in Houston and beyond. Typical performance venues for Suchu Dance include DiverseWorks, the Wortham Theater, Miller Outdoor Theater, the Jewish Community Center, Main Street Theater Chelsea, Atomic Café, University of Houston Cullen Theater, the Heinen Theatre, and the new Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex, Suchu Dance's new home.
