The Houston Grand Opera Association announces dancer and dancer/singer auditions for its 2015-16 production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel. The production is choreographed and directed by Tony and Emmy award winner Rob Ashford. Auditions will be held at the Wortham Theater Center, 510 Preston on:

Sunday, October 11th
Monday, October 12th (callbacks)

The Houston Grand Opera Dancers are a professional group of diverse backgrounds. Ensemble members rehearse weekday evenings and weekends.

This audition will have both Dance and Vocal components to it. Auditionees are encouraged but not required to take part in both components.

For the Vocal component please prepare one song from the classical, "Golden Age" musical theater repertoire (ie. Kern, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe; Gilbert and Sullivan and contemporary musical theater are also acceptable, but must be "legit" in nature). Do not bring belt songs. The selection must be in English and must be memorized. HGO will provide an accompanist, but singers are required to bring their own music in the key they wish to sing. CD accompaniment and a cappella singing is not permitted.

You may be asked to read some dialogue (provided at the audition), since there will be several roles cast from the ensemble.

The Dance component of the audition seeks technically trained dancers with great technique and partnering abilities. Ladies please bring flats and heels.

Rehearsals begin: March 2016

Performance dates: April 22, 24 (matinee), 27, 29, 30, 2015 and May 4 (tentative) 6, 7, 2016

Individuals who wish to arrange an audition should contact the Houston Grand Opera Company Office at
(713) 980-8679 starting September 14th, 2015.
