Hot Topic: Equity Strike Averted: Tentative AgreementPosted by: Staffon 2004/7/13 7:02:25 2116 reads Early yesterday, due to the fact that Actors Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers could not reach an agreement, Equity held an emergency meeting discussing whether or not to strike. If they decided to strike, it would effect most Broadway and even touring shows from continuing to run. In the late afternoon, the parties involved issued a joint statement…
“Actors' Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers announced today they have reached a tentative agreement on a new four year Production Contract. Leadership from both sides will be meeting tomorrow to finalize the details of the contract. The Equity Council will review the agreement and will make a recommendation. The contract will then be sent to the Equity ratification group for vote. The contract will serve our industry and theatre-goers well, keeping Broadway strong in New York and creating more opportunities on the road.â€
Further reports indicate that the non-union touring shows is mainly the issue of conflict that AEA and the League is dealing with. No further details have been stated, however Theatreport will be following the story closely and keep you posted.
