Open auditions for “WINTER WONDERETTES” at Island ETC

Island ETC (East-End Theatre Company) is pleased to announce open auditions for our upcoming production of the new 60’s holiday musical WINTER WONDERETTES. Auditions will be held on Sunday and Monday, September 11th and 12th at 7:00pm both evenings. Auditions will be held at ETC, 2317 Mechanic Street in Galveston. Call-backs (if needed) will be held by invitation only on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00pm.

Rehearsal’s for Roger Bean’s WINTER WONDERETTES will begin Wednesday, October 5th. Rehearsals are held Sundays through Thursdays from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Performances are November 18 through December 10. (Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm. There is one Sunday matinee on November 20th at 2:30pm. There will be no performance on Thursday, November 24 due to Thanksgiving.) Kim Mytelka (ETC artistic director) is directing this fun-filled show. Musical Director is Eduardo Guzman and choreographer is Jennifer Daugherty.

Those Marvelous Wonderettes are back! This seasonal celebration finds the girls entertaining at the annual Harper’s Hardware Holiday Party. When Santa turns up missing, the girls use their talent and creative ingenuity to save the holiday party? Featuring great 60’s versions of holiday classics such as “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Run, Rudolph, Run,” and “Winter Wonderland,” the result is, of course, marvelous! This is a high energy and fun production with roles for four fantastic women!

All roles are open! New faces and voices are always welcome. All ethnicities are welcome and urged to attend. All actors will receive a production stipend at the end of the run.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a prepared song with sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. (No a cappella or recordings.) The director prefers an up-beat piece that best demonstrates your vocal range and your ability to ‘sell’ the number. Also, bring comfortable clothing and shoes for the dance portion of the audition. (Singers don’t get nervous; this show is 60’s girl group style movement.) An updated headshot and resume is requested. Actors will be asked to share a 1 to 2 minute funny story about themselves, as well as participate in cold readings.

Roles:

BETTY JEAN – She is the self-anointed clown of the group. Betty Jean now works in Corporate Sales at Harper’s Hardware and is very proud of that fact. She loves that she is finally in charge of the group even if only for this one performance. She is recently separated from her high school sweetheart. She is strong and doesn’t wallow in self-pity.
Alto with strong low range.

CINDY LOU – She is the ‘bad girl’ of the group. She is sexy with a dry and sassy wit. Cindy Lou has an incredible soft side and inner depth.
Mezzo Soprano with belt. Sings lead on many songs.

MISSY – Missy is the overachiever of the group. She is the peacemaker, always ready to jump in and save the day. She has an inner sexiness (even slightly kinky) that comes out every once in a while, much to her surprise and embarrassment.
Soprano with belt. Floats very high vocals.

SUZY – Suzy is happy-go-lucky, a little giddy, a little silly, and a little pregnant. She finds great pleasure in everything she does; the sillier it is, the more fun she finds it. Her pregnancy has brought out her attention-deficit disorder, and she reverts to her childhood on the drop of a dime.
Mezzo Alto with big belt.

I'm Curt Miller, a professional Illusionist based in Houston. I perform a large-scale magic show for Corporate Events, and I'm looking for a few helpers with upcoming shows. The first upcoming show is in September 28 at the Houston Hyatt downtown. The gigs pay $200 each.

This is a fun and relatively easy gig! Here's a typical scenario: We meet at the venue in the afternoon, unload a few things from the trailer and set up the pipe & drape, spotlight, sound system and props. We have a lovely dinner with the clients, do the show, then pack up and that's it! Sometimes I'll ask you to meet me at my house first to help load or unload props. It's a comedy show, and we are very easy to work with.

I book quite a few of these gigs (especially around the Holidays), so I'm looking for a collection of great people I can put on my list. You need to be extremely trustworthy, hardworking, reliable, and have integrity. If you don't have these four qualities, please don't contact me. If this is you, I'd love to hear from you. I'll promise you'll have fun!
